The Last Musketeer #2: Traitor's Chase

Loyalty is tested in this second book in the thrilling time travel adventure trilogy from New York Times bestselling Charlie Thorne and Spy School author Stuart Gibbs. Having assumed the identity of a young D’Artagnan, Greg Rich is beginning to get the hang of things in 1615 Paris. But he hasn’t figured out how to get home yet. Or how to defeat the dangerous Michel Dinicoeur, who has made it his mission to destroy Greg, Athos, Aramis, and Porthos. When Dinicoeur escapes the Bastille and flees to Spain, the Musketeers charge after him, only to be ambushed. Someone is anticipating their every move. Could there be a traitor in their midst? If the Musketeers can’t trust each other, who can they trust? It’s “all for one and one for all” . . . isn’t it? And don’t miss the action-packed finale, The Last Musketeer #3: Double Cross.

The book begins with the kidnapping of Tony Denton's sixteen year old niece at a car wash and his involvement with the police as they try to locate her. Things start going wrong when police officers are pulled from the kidnapping case to work as decoys on a sting in the red light district, arresting prostitutes and their "johns". Tony losses it as he rants and raves against management of the police force in his hometown. When people tell Tony to stop griping and do something about it he reluctantly runs for sheriff, and to his surprise he wins the office. His only promise on the campaign trail had been that he would not allow any of his officers to be involved in arresting prostitutes or the...

Unlike their American colleagues, British suppliers were extremely slow to release their country's superb libraries of classic films for movie fans to purchase on either VHS tapes or DVD discs. In 2004, little over 100 titles were available. But now there are around 700, with promises of many more to come. This book details some of the best. Over 400 movies in all are described in either minute detail or in summary form! The quality (or lack of quality) in the DVD transfer is fearlessly indicated. The author's emphasis is on movies made before 1970, especially those with popular stars such as Glynis Johns, Gracie Fields, George Formby, Margaret Lockwood, Arthur Askey, Anna Neagle, James Mason, Patricia Roc, Stewart Granger, Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier, Will Hay, Tommy Trinder, Alec Guinness, Michael Wilding, Peter Finch, Christopher Lee, Peter Sellers, David Niven, Kenneth More, Kay Kendall, John Gregson, etc.

The Collins Class Submarine Story

The Collins Class Submarine Story

A unique and outstanding military and industrial achievement, the Collins class submarine project was also plagued with difficulties and mired in politics. Its story is one of heroes and villains, grand passions, intrigue, lies, spies and backstabbing. It is as well a story of enormous commitment and resolve to achieve what many thought impossible. The building of these submarines was Australia's largest, most expensive and most controversial military project. From initiation in the 1981–2 budget to the delivery of the last submarine in 2003, the total cost was in excess of six billion dollars. Over 130 key players were interviewed for this book, and the Australian Defence Department allowed access to its classified archives and the Australian Navy archives. Vividly illustrated with photographs from the collections of the Royal Australian Navy and ASC Pty Ltd, The Collins Class Submarine Story: Steel, Spies and Spin, first published in 2008, is a riveting and accessibly written chronicle of a grand-scale quest for excellence.

The Wallflower Avant-garde

The Wallflower Avant-Garde argues for the importance of a strain of modernist formalism based in ekphrasis, the literary imitation of the visual arts. Often associated with a conservative aesthetic of wholeness, permanence, and autonomy, ekphrastic writing also involves excess, failure, and mimesis, conjuring an aesthetic sense of closure and unity out of impossible imitations. This choreography of imitation and autonomy resonates with many of the foundational insights of queer theory: the way it situates identity as an effect of performativity, artifice, and mimesis. Unlike many queer theorists, however, this book insists that we value both the imitations and the aspirations that guide them, underlining not only the illusoriness of identity but also its allure. This more capacious formalism allows aspects of modernists aesthetic that have seemed regressive or repressive to be read as generative forms of stasis, quiet, reserve, shyness, and so on.

Developing Capacity for Community Governance of Natural Resources Theory & Practice

Community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) is a compelling concept that combines community custodianship of natural resources with sustainable development and poverty reduction. However, there is a large gap between the conceptual promise and actual performance of CBNRM. CBNRM is complex and challenging, and one of the major challenges is what we call micro-governance--how to replace the ubiquitous problem of elite capture within communities with genuine participation and equitable benefit sharing. This book is for people want to understand and implement CBNRM governance more effectively, including graduate students, scholars and practitioners. It is targeted most specifically at th...
