The Government's response to the House Standing Committee recognises the fact that the report is of an interim nature, and that recommendations were made after hearing only from federal agencies and the mining industry. To facilitate ongoing discussions on streamlining environmental regulation for mining, the Government is responding to the Committee's interim report by outlining the Government's overall commitment to regulatory reform and environmental protection and indicating that the process is already well under way. This document presents a comprehensive response to the Committee's report.
The Advisory Council was established to advance the goal of making Canada a world leader in the provision and use of the Information Highway, creating economic, social and cultural advantage for all Canadians. This progress report describes the Council and its structure, and discusses public policy issues. This report presents the results of the first part (poultry and egg sectors) of Phase 1 of a review of the legislative framework under which supply management currently operates in Canada. The overall objective of the study is to review the legislative framework, to identify its strengths and weaknesses, and to propose ways in which improvements can be achieved in the context of anticipated developments in the agricultural sector (including a reduced federal regulatory role), both in Canada's trade policy and in the constitutional and federal legal environment of the 1990s.
