The Squeaky Wheel

We complain about everything, often neither expecting nor getting meaningful resolutions. Wasting time and energy on unproductive complaints can take an emotional toll on our moods and well-being. Psychotherapist Guy Winch offers practical and psychologically grounded advice on how to determine what to complain about and how to convey our complaints in ways that encourage cooperation and remedies to our dissatisfactions. Whether we're dealing with a rude store clerk, a bureaucrat, a coworker, a friend or family member, complaining constructively can be empowering and can significantly strengthen our personal, familial, and work relationships.

Heartbreak, whether it comes in the form of romantic love or through loss, is universal, yet we know so little about how to deal with it. Psychologist Dr Guy Winch imagines how different our lives and our society would be if we paid more attention to this unique emotional pain. Heartbreak can last for days, weeks, months and even years. Yet while we wouldn't expect someone to go to work or function well with a broken limb,...

The Way I Used to Be

THE TIKTOK SENSATION THAT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT 'After finishing this book, my heart was pounding and I couldn’t find words big enough to describe how brilliant, beautiful, and powerful it is.' L.E. Flynn, author of All Eyes On Her All Eden wants is to rewind the clock. To live that day again. She would do everything differently. So she buries the truth, along with the girl she used to be. She pretends she doesn’t need friends, doesn’t need love, doesn’t need justice. But as her world unravels, one thing becomes clear: the only person who can save Eden … is Eden.

How To Get Over A Boy

Are you fed up with thinking about that guy every minute of every waking hour, when he doesn't even reply to your texts? Are you reeling from the pain of a break-up, unsure of where to turn? Are you single and looking to be happy with your choices in the face of society's constant questioning? In How to Get Over a Boy, bestselling author Chidera Eggerue will show you, once and for all, how to reframe the stale goal of finding a man. She will equip you with tangible and applicable solutions for every part of your dating life, helping you recognise that men hold as much power in our romantic lives as we grant them. In the past, dating books tend to lean more into the territory of ‘how to make him find you hot!’, ‘how to make him jealous!’, ‘how to get him to propose!’. But these how-tos are placing men on a pedestal of being ‘the prize’. Men are NEVER the prize. You are. Let The Slumflower show you why.

This volume unites Peter Winch’s previously unpublished work on Baruch de Spinoza. The primary source for the text is a series of seminars on Spinoza that Winch gave, first at the University of Swansea in 1982 and then at King’s College London in 1989. What emerges is an original interpretation of Spinoza’s work that demonstrates his continued relevance to contemporary issues in metaphysics, epistemology and ethics, and establishes connections to other philosophers - not only Spinoza’s predecessors such as René Descartes, but also important 20th Century philosophers such as Ludwig Wittgenstein and Simone Weil. Alongside Winch's lectures, the volume contains an interpretive essay by David Cockburn, and an introduction by the editors.

Summary of Guy Winch's Emotional First Aid

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Rejections are the most common emotional wounds we suffer in life. We experience them when we are turned down by potential dates, refused by potential employers, and snubbed by potential friends. #2 Rejections can cause four distinct psychological wounds, the severity of which depends on the situation and our emotional health at the time. When the rejections we experience are substantial, the urgency of treating our wounds with emotional first aid is far greater. #3 Rejections, whether they be emotional or physical, hurt far more than most other negative emotions because they are so rare. They are so painful because they are a reminder of how easily we can be ostracized from society. #4 The same brain regions are activated when we experience rejection as when we experience physical pain. Remarkably, the two systems are so closely linked that when scientists gave people acetaminophen before putting them through the dastardly ball-tossing rejection experiment, they reported significantly less emotional pain than people who were not given a pain reliever.
