Metrology and its applications e.g. in chemical or food analysis or in environmental monitoring are entering our daily life. This book provides a basic overview over the relevant metrological concepts like traceability, ISO uncertainties or cause-and-effect diagrams. The applications described in great detail range from progression-of-error type evaluation of the measurement uncertainty budget to complex applications like pH measurement or speciation calculations for aqueous solutions. The consequences of a measurement uncertainty concept for chemical data are outlined for geochemical modeling applied to transport in the subsurface and to nuclear waste disposal. Special sections deal with the deficits of existing thermodynamic data for these applications and with the current position of chemical metrology in respect to other quality assurance measures, e.g. ISO 900x, GLP, European and U.S.-American standards.
This book presents the “Basic Concepts Of Environmental Science & Engineering” in lucid manner understandable to those most concerned Basic Concept Of Environmental Science & Engineering. This Book based on AICTE syllabus for all Engineering colleges in India. This Book also applicable for all streams of degree colleges such as: Arts, Science & Commerce. The Basic Concepts Of Environmental Science & Engineering literacy can be defined as “the degree to which people have an objective and well-informed understanding of environmental issues.”
The sustainable use of river basins is one of the top environment priorities in Europe. There are many initiatives aimed at the promotion of the sustainable development of river areas around the Baltic and around Europe as a whole, a process greatly accelerated by the introduction of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), which obliges all EU countries to improve the standards in which they use their water and river resources. This book, prepared in the context of the Interreg IIIB Project Watersketch, is an attempt to promote a dialogue on the topic, linking aspects of sustainable biochemistry and biotechnology with elements of sustainable river management. It will serve the needs of water and river management specialists in two ways: it presents various scientific and technological approaches to river management and illustrates the epistemological breadth of the discipline, and also builds on specialised topical biotechnological and chemistry-related knowledge. The latter is especially useful to geographers and planners alike, who could perhaps adapt some of the techniques and components illustrated in the various chapters of this book to their own work.
The book reviews past and present mine waste management processes. It estimates global water consumption by major mining resources per annum. This consumption will lead land use resources (agriculture and water) to collide with mining interests expected in the near future. With the application of novel metal extraction processes and the adoption of ecological engineering as an approach to waste and water management, a reduction in water and land consumption can be achieved. Using these methodologies would make mining more sustainable. Together with ore and metal recycling, mining methods can be brought into the 21st century. The book describes natural weathering processes and the microbiolog...
