Noninvasive electrocardiographic monitoring is a fundamental part of cardiology. Depending on continuous improvements and developments of new technologies, these methods are essential for diagnosis and risk stratification of patients. The rapid changes in the capabilities, technologies and diagnostic values of the different methods force us to update our knowledge continuously. This book offers a comprehensive overview of the current state and future developments in the field of noninvasive electrocardiographic monitoring techniques. In addition, related fields such as magnetocardiography, newer signal detection and analysis techniques as well as ambulatory blood pressure monitoring are repo...
Since the introduction of balloon angioplasty for the relief of coronary artery stenoses and of anginal symptoms in patients with coronary artery disease by Andreas Griintzig in 1977, the field of interventional technology and treatment strategies has grown enormously. For the reduction of hemodynamically significant coronary artery stenoses balloon angioplasty is the standard and reference method with a high primary success and low complication rate. Because of the relatively high recurrence rates of 30-40% of balloon angioplasty a whole family of different angioplasty techniques has been developed since then. Among those are atherectomy devices, laser angioplasty, radiofrequency angioplast...
The establishment of precise and reliable biomarker tests for the early stages of cardiovascular disease is of great importance and can be the cornerstone in the prevention of future cardiovascular disease (CVD). Furthermore, some biomarkers may provide important information concerning the pathogenesis of CVD or appear to be useful in risk stratification, in CVD diagnosis, or in monitoring therapy; many others may be risk factors themselves, representing therefore potential targets of therapy. The ideal biomarker should have the following characteristics: highly sensitive, specific, reliable, accessible, standardized, dependable, cost effective, and easily interpretable by clinicians. The present book focuses on the presentation and evaluation of the most promising classical and novel biochemical markers used in CVD (coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, hyperlipidemia, peripheral arterial disease). The underlying pathophysiological characteristics of each biomarker, as well as potential clinical implications in daily practice are reviewed in this book.
This book on the Nondestructive Characterization and Imaging of Wood by Professor Voichita Bucur is truly the most outstanding reference on the subject ever written. Since the origins of mankind, wood has played a key role in the history of humans and other living creatures, ranging from provision of life from trees giving air, heat, light, and food to nourish their bodies to structures to protect them from the elements. Wood has also played a key role in one of the world's primary religions. Nondestructive diagnostics methods have long found application in medi cal practice for examination of the human body in order to detect life threatening abnormalities and permit diagnosis to extend life. Nondestructive testing has been used for many years to insure the safety of machinery, air craft, railroads, tunnels, buildings and many other structures. Therefore, it is timely for a treatise, like the present one, to be written describing how wood can be characterized without employing destructive test methods. Since wood is so valuable to mankind, it is important to know the latest methods to nondestructively characterize wood for all practical applications.
All physicians practicing medicine encounter patients suffering from cardiovascular disease. This book has been outlined in such a way that vascular surgeons, general internists, neurologists and cardiologists should be able to use it. The book covers the complete scope of cardiac diseases in addition to chapters on hypertension and atherosclerosis. In many patients there is a family history of cerebrovascular accidents, myocardial infarction or peripheral arterial disease. Also in patients reporting collaps, palpitations and arrhythmias the family is crucial and can provide clues to a genetic cause of the disease. This book is published to guide physicians in the process of determining whet...
Frontiers in Cardiology is a collection of authoritative state-of-the-art works, keeping the clinical and academic cardiologist in touch with the latest developments in clinical research and practice. Each book in the series covers a topic of major importance and is written from an international perspective, by the leaders in the field. Significant advances have recently been made in the technology and clinical applications of ambulatory monitoring. These developments and clinical studies have made Holter monitoring one of the most important diagnosis and management tools available to cardiologists today. In this timely publication, Arthur Moss and Shlomo Stern have brought together the world's experts in the sciences and practice of the new field of noninvasive electrocardiology. They provide the clinical cardiologist and electrophysiologist with comprehensive and state-of-the-art information on the scientific basis of Holter monitoring, and guidance on how the complexity and challenges of diagnosis and monitoring of diverse cardiological problems can be minimized by effective use of this technology.
