The State in the Third Millennium

A Monarchical Perspective on Constitutional Governance
This paper explores key ideas in constitutional political economy by analyzing the writings of H.S.H. Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein. As a hereditary head of state, His Highness has significant political power. However, the constitution and political institutions of Liechtenstein give each element of the government -- the monarch, the parliament, and the people -- checks on the ability of the others to behave arbitrarily. Through examining His Highness's ideas on constitutional governance in his recent book, The State in the Third Millennium, this paper offers a new perspective on the balance of political power necessary to keep state activity within its appropriate bounds.

Anna Ladegaard (1913-2000) dansk forfatter med et internationalt udsyn; arbejdede i udgangspunktet med turisme i flere europæiske lande, senere ansat ved den danske ambassade i Stockholm, flyttede i 1953 til Rhodesia for så i 1960 at vende tilbage og slå sig ned i Danmark, kun afbrudt af ophold i Spanien. Ud over et vægtigt ægteskabsanalytisk indhold er det kendetegnede for Anna Ladegaards romaner, at de er omhyggeligt komponerede og helt elementært spændende, og at synsvinklen altid er kvindens. Anna Ladegaard blev tildelt boghandlernes prestigefulde pris De Gyldne laurbær i 1973 for Egoisterne.
