Page proofs of Lienhard's "Californien unmittelbar vor und nach der Entdeckung des Goldes" with annotations and corrections in his hand, evidently not incorporated into any later editions or translations (folder 1), and photocopies of Lienhard family correspondence relating to Lienhard and his book (folder 2). Correspondence consists of: Letter of 1847 from Lienhard to his family in Switzerland, written from Sutter's Fort (New Helvetia), and including details of life in that area; letter of 1866 from Lienhard's family in Switzerland (Kaspar Lienhard to Heinrich Lienhard); correspondence (2 letters from 1930) between J.H. Lienhard and Marguerite Wilbur, regarding her translation of "Californien" which was later incorporated in her work, "A Pioneer at Sutter's Fort."
Emigrated to United States in 1843, eventually arriving in California in 1846 where worked for John Sutter; left California around 1850; finally, settled in Nauvoo, Illinois.
