Den ene dagen var Helle Cecilie Palmers yngste datter, Aurora, en helt vanlig fem måneder gammel baby. Den neste dagen lå hun i koma, livstruende syk, tilkoblet respirator. Familien fikk henne aldri tilbake, ikke sånn som hun var før. I stedet fikk de et annet barn, et annerledes barn, som de måtte bli kjent med på nytt. De fikk et annet liv enn de hadde planlagt. Dette er fortellingen om Helles liv som mor til et barn med store funksjonsnedsettelser – og det er historien om Aurora. Boka skildrer hverdagen til familien på fem. Den handler om hvordan det er å kjempe for barna sine – og hvordan velferdsstaten ofte kommer til kort. Men det er også en fortelling om hva samfunnet bidrar med, om verdien av å være annerledes – og om kjærlighet. Helle Cecilie Palmer (f. 1981) er journalist og kommentator i Agenda Magasin. Hun har bakgrunn som forlagsredaktør i Res Publica, har en mastergrad i Publishing Studies fra University of Stirling og en bachelor i medievitenskap fra NTNU. Palmer har vært nestleder i organisasjonen Løvemammaene, og er en aktiv samfunnsdebattant innen helse- og velferdspolitikk.
