This volume of new Rilke translations is divided between two parts. The first gives - in facing pages for a line-by-line comparison - the original German text and Hellmut Juretschke's own translations. The second is commentary by the author about questions he confronted was confronted with during the translation process, how he resolved them, and notes about hard-to-translate aspects of the original German. This is helpful for readers in understanding the method used to justify Hellmut's reactions to the German texts and how he gave them expression in English.

P.P. Ewald and His Dynamical Theory of X-ray Diffraction
Paul Ewald's 1916-1917 masterpiece "On the Foundations of Crystal Optics" described the self-consistent interaction of electromagnetic waves with crystals on a molecular level.
