Kapitänleutnant Hellmuth von Mücke: 1914 Erster Offizier des Kleinen Kreuzers Emden und Kommandant des Landungszuges auf den Cocos-Keeling Inseln. Durch seine kühne Flucht mit dem Schoner Ayesha nach Sumatra, die Fahrt ins Rote Meer, den Marsch durch die arabische Wüste und die erfolgreiche Heimkehr über Konstantinopel nach Deutschland wurde Hellmuth von Mücke zu einem der berühmtesten Seeoffiziere des Ersten Weltkrieges. In der Weimarer Republik war er politisch und publizistisch tätig, und nach Hitlers Machtübernahme verdammte die offizielle Parteipropaganda Hellmuth von Mücke als unverbesserlichen Nationalbolschewisten. Der bekannte Marineoffizier wurde mit Schreibverbot belegt. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg war Hellmuth von Mücke in der Weltfriedensbewegung tätig. In dieser Arbeit beschreibt der Autor das Leben und Wirken des heute vergessenen Marineoffiziers.
