Art Nouveau Glass

Over a period of more than thirty years Gerda Koepff devoted herself passionately to collecting Art Nouveau glass, which reached a previously unattained quality towards the end of the nineteenth century in France. The exceptional collection she amassed during those years, comprising 126 pieces of considerable international importance, provides an overview of the very best in Art Nouveau glass while hearing the unmistakable stamp of a personal selection. Among the earliest pieces are works by Francois Eugene Rousseau, Ernest Bapuste Leveille and Auguste Jean, who, with vessels exuding a distinctly Japanese air, paved the way for Art Nouveau's sweeping success in Paris. This international volume presents a comprehensive, comparative study of the transformation of the European telecommunications industry from 1990 to the present. The book focuses on the old incumbent operators and their dramatic change from state agencies to listed companies. It analyzes the liberalization process, as well as the corporatization and privatization of these companies. The contributors assess the conditions for the transformations taking place; the driving forces for change; the effects to management, the efforts of the EU during these processes, and ultimately, the role of the private owner. Political science publications have all but excluded analysis of the newly privatized companies; their contribution to the liberalization process both before and after privatization; and the interplay between the national political and company levels. The book redresses this shortcoming, and also features a double empirical focus in that the main national incumbents in Europe are analyzed and compared to Telenor, the Norwegian former incumbent.

Reputation Management

Reputation is the most complex asset of an organization. Despite the call for consistent management of corporate reputation comprehensive approaches to measure and steer a company' s reputation are still in their infancy. Reputation management aims at creating a balance between stakeholder demands, perceptions and corporate reality in order to foster behavior that helps a company achieve its business goals. It needs to be based on thorough research and requires orchestrated execution through management processes across organizational units, communication disciplines, and countries. This calls for a management system to establish a closed cycle of strategic planning, implementation, performance measurement, and reporting. The book gives answers to the following questions: What is reputation and which conceptualizations do exist? What are the state-of-the-art methods and tools to measure corporate reputation? What are best practice examples and future trends in the field of corporate reputation management?

Wiring Europe

Involving both integration and liberalization, the state of telecommunications in Europe has undergone radical change in the past few years. Natalicchi (political science, U. of Florence, Italy) examines the external and internal forces of change originating from international, national, and European Union levels. He argues that the EU is a polycentric and multilayered polity and that multiple mechanisms determine integrative steps and policy outcomes. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
