Matematika: Jalan Kesejahteraan
Buku ini menunjukkan peran matematika dalam kesejahteraan hidup manusia. Kesejahteraan diartikan sebagai suatu keadaan makmur, aman sentosa, dan selamat terlepas dari gangguan. Matematika digunakan untuk memodelkan masalah nyata. Selanjutnya model matematis diselesaikan, sehingga diperoleh fungsi ataupun nilai-nilai tertentu. Penyelesaian model matematis tersebut merupakan hampiran dari penyelesaian masalah nyata. Secara spesifik, buku ini memuat pentingnya penyelesaian masalah kebencanaan, baik bencana biologis maupun fisis. Bencana biologis misalnya penyebaran penyakit menular pada masyarakat. Bencana fisis misalnya banjir dan tsunami. Matematika diterapkan sebagai alat untuk memodelkan masalah bencana dan menyelesaikan model kebencanaan. Dengan demikian, matematika benar-benar berperan sebagai jalan kesejahteraan.
