As a result of migration, more than 25% of Romanian L1 speakers live outside of Romania and Moldova - mostly in other European countries, but also in America and Australia. In the meantime, many second-generation speakers have become part of this group. Sincronic şi diacronic în cercetarea lingvistică : „Litere 160”
Volumul de față cuprinde o selecţie a lucrărilor prezentate în cadrul secțiunii de Lingvistică a Colocviului Aniversar „Literele bucureștene. 160 de ani de existență”, desfășurat între 2 și 4 noiembrie 2023, la Facultatea de Litere, Universitatea din București. Lucrările au în vedere subiecte actuale de cercetare, discutate din perspectivă atât sincronică, cât şi diacronică, acoperind o mare varietate de subdomenii lingvistice: lexicografie; lexicologie şi semantică; onomastică romanică; morfosintaxă (istorică și romanică); dialectologie și geografie lingvistică; pragmatică; stilistică; lingvistică/semantică cognitivă și culturală. Articolele ilustrează continuitatea firească între teme și metode de cercetare tradiționale și abordări moderne, cu deschidere spre teorii, concepte și instrumente de lucru recente, corelate cu studiile internaționale.
The Memorial Ethics of Libeskind's Berlin Jewish Museum
This book is a detailed critical study of Libeskind’s Berlin Jewish Museum in its historical, architectural and philosophical context. Emphasizing how the Holocaust changed our perception of history, memory, witnessing and representation, it develops the notion of ‘memorial ethics’ to explore the Museum’s difference from more conventional post-World War Two commemorative sites. The main focus is on the Museum as an experience of the materiality of trauma which engages the visitor in a performative duty to remember. Arleen Ionescu builds on Levinas’s idea of ‘ethics as optics’ to show how Libeskind’s Museum becomes a testimony to the unpresentable Other. Ionescu also extends the Museum’s experiential dimension by proposing her own subjective walk through Libeskind’s space reimagined as a ‘literary museum’. Featuring reflections on texts by Beckett, Celan, Derrida, Kafka, Blanchot, Wiesel and Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger (Celan’s cousin), this virtual tour concludes with a brief account of Libeskind’s analogous ‘healing project’ for Ground Zero.
Spatial Readings and Linguistic Landscapes
Talking about space in literature and linguistics is a major challenge, not only for experts in the field of the humanities, but also for the broader public, searching for orientation clues on the vast book market. Contact des langues et plurilinguisme dans la Romania
Les situations hétérogènes de contact linguistique et le plurilinguisme présentent toujours un défi épistémologique pour la recherche. Le type de contact linguistique, les langues impliquées, les enjeux sociaux d’une société et ses groupes sociaux différents ainsi que la culture du plurilinguisme sont des facteurs importants qui en font un objet de recherche très complexe et difficilement généralisable. Ce volume contient des études qui essaient d’apprivoiser cette complexité en analysant des situations différentes de contact linguistique et de plurilinguisme en Amérique et en Europe pour en montrer les enjeux et proposer de nouvelles théories et méthodes multidisciplinaires pour les appréhender. Le volume contient également des discussions sur les nouvelles possibilités de recueillir des données linguistiques relevant des usages stigmatisés ou des sources nouvelles pour analyser aussi bien l’usage linguistique que les évaluations que les gens en font ainsi que les métadiscours qui circulent sur ces usages.

The Spectacle of the Body in Late Medieval England
The volume The Spectacle of the Body in Late Medieval England represents a study on the human body representation in medieval England by approaching the concept of the spectacle as a space of manifestation. The author clarifies the ways of understanding the body as a physical and metaphorical reality, but also the medieval conceptualization of violence. On top of that, the author is making an investigation on the violent character of spectacles' representation in pursuit of picturing this subject more clearly and more relevant. The approach of the volume is dominantly Christian reviewing the representations of the body through outstanding figures of Christianity (crucifixion of Jesus Christ, body of Virgin Mary).
