Witchcraft in Romania
This book provides a history of witchcraft in the territories that compose contemporary Romania, with a focus on the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries. The first part presents aspects of earthly justice, religious and secular, analysing the codes of law, trials and verdicts, and underlining the differences between Transylvania on one hand, and Moldavia and Wallachia on the other. The second part is concerned with divine justice, describing apocalyptic texts that talk about the pains of witches in hell, but also the ensembles of religious painting where, in vast compositions of the Last Judgment, various punishments for the sin of witchcraft are imagined.

The present volume insists on the policies derived from the social ideas generated by myths, the updating of myths as an arsenal of social pedagogy, on the ethnic condition of the relevance of myths, but also on the resumption by mass media of the pejorative sense of the myth. Antiziganism
In October 2013, more than 100 scholars gathered at an international conference in Uppsala to discuss ways to identify and analyse a theme which in recent years has attracted growing attention: the discrimination, marginalisation and persecution of Romanies. Inventing the Jew
Inventing the Jew follows the evolution of stereotypes of Jews from the level of traditional Romanian and other Central-East European cultures (their legends, fairy tales, ballads, carols, anecdotes, superstitions, and iconographic representations) to that of "high" cultures (including literature, essays, journalism, and sociopolitical writings), showing how motifs specific to "folkloric antisemitism" migrated to "intellectual antisemitism." This comparative perspective also highlights how the images of Jews have differed from that of other "strangers" such as Hungarians, Germans, Roma, Turks.
Language Sustainability in a Changing World
This volume includes thirteen papers presented at the 16th Conference on British and American Studies held at Transilvania University of Brașov, Romania. It consists of three main parts, the first of which includes contributions falling within the scope of communication and meaning-making. The articles gathered here consider issues such as social identity and the construction of gender both in and through language, and the rendition of cultural content across languages. The second section takes a closer look at language in context: the contributions included here approach language as a means to encode and decode the reality around us, whether in media discourse, academic contexts, fictional literature or bilingual dictionaries. The research strand in the third part of the volume relates to the lexico-grammatical specificities of natural languages. The focus of attention here is Romanian, with some of its structural particularities set against those present in other languages.
