This symposium, originally founded in 2013 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidad de Zaragoza and University of Yamaguchi, is conceived as an international forum for the dissemination and reinforcement of research collaboration among the participating institutions. Different institutions have been invited to participate in subsequent editions. University of Cantabria had the opportunity to participate in the 2nd and 5th edition, and we are honoured to organize the present 6th conference, that unfortunately, was forced to be celebrated remotely due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. This edition continues with the topics discussed in the previous symposium. Scientific topics are aligned wi...
Ready-to-Eat (RTE) describes foods that need not be cooked, reheated, or otherwise prepared before consuming them. Recent Advances in Ready-to-Eat Food Technology covers all the aspects of RTE from statistics, method of production, mechanization, thermal and non-thermal processing, gluten-free, consumer behavior, control of foodborne illness and hygiene, packaging requirements, and improved functionalization to application of nanotechnology. Key Features: Covers the development of ready-to-eat products from meat, cereal, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and pulses Provides a global review of labeling and packaging for ready-to-eat products Discusses hygienic design and safety in the production and consumption, with an emphasis on pathogenicity issues Written by a team of well-recognized researchers who present the latest advances in RTE food product development, this book is of interest to industry professionals and academicians as well as to undergraduate students and postgraduate researchers.
Carbon membranes have great advantages of strong mechanical strength and high chemical stabilities, as well as high separation performance to reach the industrial attractive region. Further improvement on membrane performance can potentially offset the relatively high production cost compared to polymeric membranes. However, there are still some challenges related to fabrication of asymmetric carbon membranes, the controlling of structure and pore-size and module up-scaling for commercial application. The aim of this book is to provide the fundamentals on carbon membrane materials for the young researchers and engineers to develop frontier membrane materials for energy efficient separation p...
Current Trends and Future Developments on (Bio-) Membranes: Photocatalytic Membranes and Photocatalytic Membrane Reactors offers a comprehensive review on the state-of-the-art in the area of PMs and PMRs. The book gives an overview of the basis of photocatalysis and membrane separation and the basic aspects of photocatalytic membranes and photocatalytic membrane reactors, along with their applications, modeling, and the economic aspects of PMs and PMRs. The book addresses the main issues associated with PMRs design and tries to predict how long it will be before laboratory scale models can be scaled to the PMR industry. - Reviews new hybrid separation techniques based on photocatalysis and membranes - Offers a detailed description of the various photocatalytic membrane reactors and their function - Includes new membrane based separation techniques for the removal of emerging contaminants from water, such as pharmaceutical and personal care products - Discusses numerous reactor configurations and various membrane materials for photocatalytic membranes - Includes the modeling and economic aspects of various processes
Includes abstracts of Kagaku kōgaku, v. 31-
The only book dedicated to membrane technology, covering all the different innovative membrane areas from separation to contactors, and regarding them as unit operations in process engineering. The specific potential of these advanced new operations is analyzed by different experts in the field, with regard to their basic aspects and in particular to their potential application for a sustainable growth and improvement in the quality of life. To this end, much emphasis is placed on the role of membrane engineering as a dominant technology in such areas as water desalination or artificial organs. The editors are well known and recognized within the community, while the active experience of the authors provides a highly practical, industrially relevant approach to the subject. Topics considered in detail include membranes in fuel cells, membranes in MEMS and OLEDS, as well as integrated membrane systems.
