A diary; honest, edgy, raw and downright brutal. The Girl On The Moon is no exception. Our narrator's life isn't exactly the way she had hoped it would be at age thirty. She's found out her ex-boyfriend has gotten married, and she hasn't had a date in months. She's living in a cramped apartment. Her mother has become a spectacle, her social life has dwindled down, and she's having panic attacks, and developed an obnoxious case of paranoia. Even Porkchop, her cat, seems to be judging her. It seems she's starring in a theatrical show as the character full of folly. She decides to take control of her life, and her self-esteem. But real life has ups and downs. Real life doesn't allow one to make mistakes without repeating humiliating history. Real life deals out cards we aren't always prepared to play. As she moves through her journey she discovers feeling crazy seems to attract other crazy people like a magnet. Will she find herself? Will she find what she's looking for? Will she get it all and still have her sanity left when it's all said and done? Leave your manners at the door. Everyone else in the diary has.

Self-described as "bookish," Lowens was by virtue of long established habit an inveterate reader and writer. Having transplanted himself, by circuitous route, from his native New York City to Washington, D.C., he became a regular reader of the Washington Star, then newspaper of record in the nation's capital. In December 1953, Lowens penned a letter to the editor praising the work of the Star's new music critic Day Thorpe. Shortly thereafter, the Irving Lowens byline made its first appearance in the newspaper. Thus began a relationship that dramatically changed Lowens's professional life, and ultimately helped to change, for the better, the musical landscape of Washington.

When the worst writer in history self-publishes his books, the world of literature is decimated overnight. Illiteracy becomes something to aspire to and book burnings become rife. The publishing industry is left hemorrhaging credibility and verges on collapse. But its recovery not a matter of removing said books, or even destroying them, the same must be done to the mind responsible. Thomas may be the worst writer to have ever lived, but if he’s not careful, he won’t be doing much of that, either. Written with little regard for spelling, punctuation or even words, this Sortabiography is the story of one writer against the entire publishing industry. There’s lots of swearing and temper tantrums, as well as a brand new psychiatric illness. There’s also an excellent café scene, which although short, is worth mentioning.
