Dans le prolongement de l’ouvrage consacré à la sûreté des installations nucléaires édité en 1996 dont le contenu devait être actualisé et le champ étendu, l’IRSN a créé une nouvelle série d’ouvrages didactiques intitulée « Eléments de sûreté nucléaire, de radioprotection et de sécurité «. Le premier ouvrage de cette série, dédié à la sécurité nucléaire et à la non-prolifération, expose les dispositions prises en France et à l’international afin de prévenir des actions d’origine terroriste ou malveillante et, si nécessaire, en réduire les conséquences. Il aborde la sécurité des matières nucléaires, de leurs installations et de leurs transports, la sécurité des sources radioactives et traite de l’engagement des Etats en termes de « garanties « quant au suivi des matières nucléaires ou chimiques afin d’en prévenir toute utilisation frauduleuse.
