John Deakin
Muir, former picture editor of British Vogue, brings together a collection of Deakin's most important photographs, including previously unseen material recovered from the artist's friends, the archives of Vogue, and the studio floor of painter Francis Bacon, who based paintings on photos commissioned from Deakin. Muir's accompanying essay provides background to this powerful collection of 111 bandw portraits by Deakin and seven color plates showing Bacon's paintings. Romanian ethnomedicinal knowledge extends as far back as the 16th century to the Geto-Dacian priests who used medicinal plants and practiced integrated holistic medicine. The ethnomedicine continued in monasteries by monks who used cultivated medicinal plants and wild harvested plants. There are now over 800 species of medicinal plants in Romania.
