La materialización del pasado
Con la publicación de esta obra colectiva queremos contribuir a la comprensión de los procesos de configuración de la memoria social en Colombia, a partir de una historia cultural de los monumentos enfocada en la forma en que las representaciones y apropiaciones históricas de estas obras se han ido transformando y resignificando con el tiempo. A partir de diferentes casos de estudio, correspondientes a diversos territorios y momentos históricos, los autores indagan acerca de las representaciones sobre la nación y su historia que se inscriben en los monumentos; qué es lo que hacen visible y qué ocultan; cuáles son las inclusiones y exclusiones en la monumentalización; qué actores se disputan los sentidos inscritos en los monumentos en diferentes contextos históricos y cómo lo hacen y, qué políticas de la memoria, y el olvido, subyacen a la historia de los monumentos conmemorativos en Colombia. Así mismo, este texto hace un aporte importante a la historiografía colombiana sobre los monumentos, da cuenta de cómo se ha realizado la investigación acerca de estos objetos culturales en nuestro país y ofrece nuevas interpretaciones y explicaciones.

New Technologies in Building and Construction

La Rochela
En la época en que ocurrieron los hechos, se presentaron en Colombia numerosos ataques contra empleados de la administración de justicia. El 18 de enero de 1989, cerca al corregimiento de La Rochela, en el municipio de Simacota, Santander, fue perpetrada por un grupo paramilitar una masacre en la que murieron 12 de un total de 15 funcionarios judiciales que investigaban varios delitos en la zona. El crimen fue el resultado de una alianza entre paramilitares, narcotraficantes y algunos miembros del Ejército, y se enmarca dentro de un contexto de violencia contra funcionarios judiciales. Entre 1979 y 1991, un promedio anual de 25 jueces y abogados fueron asesinados o sufrieron algún tipo de atentado. A partir de la masacre de la Rochela, como caso emblemático, se ilustrarán las múltiples formas de victimización de los operadores judiciales en Colombia. Wàsi, ver y circular la imagen en la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
El estudio de las imágenes permite acercarse a unos "modos de ver" que hacen referencia a ámbitos temporales de la sensibilidad y la percepción. La representación de los pueblos indígenas en el cine, la fotografía y los medios de comunicación sitúa una mirada que se ha establecido desde la Iglesia, el Estado, las multinacionales, los documentalistas y el turismo. La autorrepresentación indígena ha implicado la aparición de lo que algunos autores han denominado resistencia simbólica, activismo cultural y soberanía visual. Este libro es una etnografía de las imágenes que rastrea su uso, producción, circulación y significación entre el pueblo arhuaco. Se argumenta que los colectivos indígenas de comunicaciones de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta están configurando unas transformaciones en la etnicidad de la Colombia contemporánea vinculadas con la producción de imágenes, en el contexto del multiculturalismo y el cosmopolitismo, con lo cual extienden su pensamiento y amplían espacialmente su experiencia política.
