A Case for Psycholinguistic Cases
This volume comprises ten papers presented as plenary lectures on the occasion of the Second World Congress of the International Society of Applied Psycholinguistics (ISAPL) at the University of Kassel, Germany, from July 27 31, 1987. The articles collected in this volume focus on the production, comprehension, and acquisition of languages from various empirical and theoretical points of view. This volume is case-based in that it does not claim to cover the full range of present-day psycholinguistic enquiry. It attempts, though, to make a case out of a representational variety of psycholinguistic phenomena, which might provide a window on a unified theory of language production, comprehension, and acquisition. From this perspective this volume aims at the presentation and discussion of various cases which, through analogical reasoning, may serve to shed light on and to solve new cases.

Expertise and Explicitation in the Translation Process
This book addresses the complexities of the translation process. Informed by theoretical and methodological advances in translation studies, research on writing and the expertise paradigm, it explores translation as a text reproduction task. With triangulation of data from Russian-Swedish translation think-aloud-methodology and computer logging of the writing process - it makes a cross-sectional comparison of subjects with different amounts of translation experience, highlighting crucial aspects of professional competence and expertise in translation. The book also elaborates a method for a combined product and process analysis, applying it to the study of one type of explicitation: increased cohesive explicitness of the target text. The results have implications for translation theory and pedagogy. Research and Professional Practice in Specialised Translation
Specialised translation has received very little attention from academic researchers, but in fact accounts for the bulk of professional translation on a global scale and is taught in a growing number of university-level translation programmes. This book aims to provide three things. Firstly, it offers a description of what makes the approach to specialised translation distinctive from wider-ranging approaches to Translation Studies adopted by translation scholars and applied linguists. Secondly, unlike the traditional approach to specialised translation, this book explores a perspective on specialised translation that is much less focused on terminology and more on the function and reception of specialised (translated) texts. Finally, the author outlines a professionally-oriented hands-on approach to the teaching of specialised translation resulting from many years of teaching it to MA students. The book will be of interest to Translation Studies students and scholars, as well as professional translators who are interested in the theory on which their activity is based.
Triangulating Translation
The articles which appear in this volume stem from papers presented in a sub-section of the II Brazilian International Translators' Forum dedicated to process-oriented research in translation. The congress's main theme, namely Translating the Millennium: Corpora, Cognition and Cultures is reflected in the seven contributions which aim at fostering the dialogue among translation researchers interested in process-oriented investigations.
