Islanders
Texturally rich and profoundly beautiful, Islanders surveys the work of New Zealand sculptor Jo Torr, who explores cultural exchange through the lens of costume and textile history. Her exquisitely designed and authentically detailed garments provide an intriguing mode for understanding the history and vogues of early European and Polynesian encounters, both in New Zealand and in wider Polynesia. Islanders brings together for the first time works from eleven suites of Torr's previously exhibited work, along with brand-new works made for Objectspace. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication featuring large-scale images and commissioned essays by Kolokesa Mahina-Tuai, Andrew Paul Wood, and Chanel Clarke that consider the theme of cultural exchange in Torr's practice from European, Maori and Pasifika perspectives.

The Resurrection of Philip Clairmont
This mingling of biography, autobiography and art history has at its centre the life and art of the painter Philip Clairmont, a tortured figure who died by his own hand in 1984. Meeting those who were close to Clairmont and observing where he lived and what he left behind, Martin Edmond makes his own journey. But he also brings to light facts not previously known or understood about Clairmont's childhood and family, his education and growth as an artist, his ideas about art and the artistic vocation. He explores his relationships with fellow artists and with mentors as well as his more personal roles as son, husband and father. Cultural Heritage Issues
The global community, dependent as always on the cooperation of nation states, is gradually learning to address the serious threats to the cultural heritage of our disparate but shared civilizations. The legacy of conquest, colonialization, and commerce looms large in defining and explaining these threats. The essays contained in this challenging volume are based on papers presented at an international conference on cultural heritage issues that took place at Willamette University. The conference sought to generate fresh ideas about these cultural heritage issues; offer a good sense of their nuances and complexities; and reveal how culture, law, and ethics can interact, complement, diverge, and contradict one another.
