Die Themen dieser - Doku-Stories genannten - Geschichten haben zum einen Teil ihre Entsprechung in der Gegenwart, was in der Titelgeschichte "Missbrauch" am deutlichsten wird, zum anderen Teil führen sie in die ganz andere Welt der Frühen Neuzeit ein, wie z.B. die Doku-Story "Satanswerk". Eine Reihe von anderen Geschichten weist mal eine enge, mal eine lose Verknüpfung mit der Gegenwart auf. Neben Missbrauch und Teufelsglauben geht es um Beispiele von Erbschleicherei, Liebe, Korruption, Altersreichtum, Zwangsheirat und Ehrenmord.
