Nicholas Welch was born in Ireland near the middle of the eighteenth century. He moved to England in 1790 to Chesterfield, Derbyshire where he owned an Inn called The Hat and Feathers. Descendant John Welch came West from Nauvoo, Illinois in the winter of 1846, but did not arrive in the Salt Lake Valley until 1852.
Journal kept by John S. Welch from Jan. 1, 1917 to May 31, 1920, during his mission to New Zealand for the L.D.S. Church, when he served as president of the Maori Agricultural College.
