Este livro representa a conclusão de diversos estudos do autor sobre o tema da ligação entre o seguro de responsabilidade civil obrigatório, na sua conformação pelas Diretivas de harmonização europeias e respetiva aplicação pelo Tribunal de Justiça. Algumas decisões do Tribunal de Justiça da UE com respeito a questões prejudiciais colocadas por tribunais portugueses fizeram surgir a interrogação sobre se não se teria verificado um retrocesso na proteção, sobretudo, dos participantes não motorizados do tráfego rodoviário. Decisões posteriores vieram demonstrar não ser esse o caso. Confirmava-se a necessidade de interpretar as disposições do Código Civil português de um modo que respeite não só a legislação como a jurisprudência europeia consolidada. É esse o objetivo principal.
