Visual Double Stars: Formation, Dynamics and Evolutionary Tracks
This workshop is devoted to Double stars. The general topics of the meeting were: for mation, dynamics and evolutionary tracks. In accordance with the pure tradition of the Saint James way, "pilgrims" from all over the world come to meet together in Santiago. Although with a common interest (double stars), this meeting was a multidisciplinary one, since scientists with different backgrounds participated in it. As a matter of fact, we think that this is the first workshop jointly supported by IAU Commissions 7 (Celestial mechanics) and 26 (Double and multiple stars). The Workshop makes a brief overview of different topics related with fundamental parameters, dynamics and large astronomical databases compilation as well as several aspects of astronomical instrumentation used in such studies.This Workshop were centered on large field beginning from the nature of exoplanets (presented by H. Abt) to the expected results of the Gaia astronomical satellite mission.

The Workshop makes a brief overview of different topics related with fundamental parameters, dynamics and large astronomical databases compilation as well as several aspects of astronomical instrumentation used in such studies. This Workshop were centered on large field beginning from the age of the Local Interstellar Bubble (presented by H. Abt) to the future of the Washington Double Star Catalog.
Transactions of the International Astronomical Union
IAU Transactions XXIIB summarizes the work of the XXIInd General Assembly. The discourses given during the Inaugural and Closing Ceremonies are reproduced in Chapters I and III, respectively. The proceedings of the two sessions of the General Assembly will be found in Chapter II, which includes the Resolutions and the report of the Finance Committee. The Statutes, Bye-Laws and a few working rules of the Union are published in Chapter IV. The Accounts and other aspects of the administration of the Union are recorded in Chapter V, together with the report of the Executive Committee for this last triennium, and provide the permanent record for the Union in the period 1991-1994. This volume also contains the Commission reports from The Hague compiled by the Presidents of the Commissions (Chapter VI). Finally, Chapter VII contains the list of countries adhering to the Union and the alphabetical, geographical and commission membership lists of about 8000 individual members. The IAU still appears to be unique among the scientific Unions in maintaining this category of individual membership which contributes in a crucial way to the spirit and the aims of the Union.

Este libro se nutre de la dilatada experiencia como profesores de Astronomía de los autores. Inicialmente dirigido a estudiantes universitarios de Matemáticas, Física e Ingeniería, su contenido es de gran interés para quien necesite conceptos rigurosos de Astronomía Fundamental o, simplemente, sienta atracción por esta interesante ciencia y desee adquirir sólidos conocimientos o ampliar los que ya tiene. Se abordan temas como coordenadas astronómicas y su corrección, medida del tiempo, movimientos de cuerpos celestes, cálculo de eclipses y órbitas de estrellas binarias y exoplanetas. En la segunda edición se han revisado algunos temas de la primera y se han modificado otros al amparo de las recomendaciones de la Unión Astronómica Internacional (IAU) posteriores a dicha edición. En consecuencia, se han redistribuido y reordenado varios temas y se ha añadido un capítulo dedicado a los nuevos modelos de precesión y nutación terrestre. Así mismo, el capítulo de estrellas dobles se ha reescrito y se ha añadido en él una introducción al problema, de gran actualidad, de la búsqueda de exoplanetas.
