From local bike-sharing initiatives to overhauls of transport infrastructure, mobility is one of the most important areas in which modern cities are trying to realize a more sustainable future. Yet even as politicians and planners look ahead, there remain critical insights to be gleaned from the history of urban mobility and the unsustainable practices that still impact our everyday lives. The Mediality of Sugar
The Mediality of Sugar probes the potential of reading sugar as a mediator across some of the disciplinary distinctions in early twenty-first century research in the arts, literature, architecture, and popular culture. Selected artistic practices and material cultures of sugar across Europe and the Americas from the sixteenth to the twenty-first century are investigated and connected to the transcontinental and transoceanic history of the sugar plants cane and beet, their botanical and cultural dissemination, and global sugar capital and trade under colonialism and in decoloniality. The collection contributes to the vision of a Transnational and Postdisciplinary Sugar Studies.

Este terceiro volume, decorrente das várias sessões que se realizaram no Departamento de Línguas e Culturas da Universidade de Aveiro, inseridas no Ciclo de Conferências “Do manuscrito ao livro impresso e eletrónico” (quinta e sexta edições), vem dar seguimento aos dois anteriores, em que nos propusemos promover a investigação e divulgação científica na área da História do Livro e da Edição, no âmbito das atividades curriculares da Licenciatura em Línguas e Estudos Editoriais e do Mestrado em Estudos Editoriais do Departamento de Línguas e Culturas da Universidade de Aveiro. Um dos principais objetivos da realização deste projeto de cariz científico-pedagógico continua a ser o de fomentar e aprofundar a articulação entre investigação e ensino, proporcionando aos alunos do primeiro e do segundo ciclos um contacto privilegiado com diferentes especialistas, peritos em matérias relacionadas com a história da edição e com a produção editorial. Ademais, o desenvolvimento desta iniciativa vem estreitando e consolidando a já longa e profícua cooperação entre o Departamento de Línguas e Culturas e a Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra.

AS DITADURAS DO SÉCULO XX EM PORTUGAL, ESPANHA E GRÉCIA. UM DOCUMENTO HISTÓRICO Este livro fala-nos dos que nasceram nos anos 30 e 40 do século passado e foram os jovens revolucionários dos subsequentes anos 60 e 70, que contribuíram para a queda das três ditaduras europeias que existiam à época na Europa Ocidental – Portugal, Espanha e Grécia. Um relato tripartido em que Isabel do Carmo, Sofia Rodríguez e Kostis Kornetis documentam – usando tanto fontes escritas como testemunhos orais – a conjuntura internacional, as lutas que se travavam nos respetivos países, e as condições de vida das populações durante os anos de repressão.
