Socio-Design
While the glittering aesthetics of consumer goods propel us to create modern "ego images," there is another side to contemporary design besides the urge to consume, one that focuses on social relevance in the design of cultural objects. Socio-Design has gained more popularity during times of social upheaval. The book illustrates six recent designs that have achieved a stabilizing and equilibrating effect in the context of a new design order.

From the Highlands to Hollywood
This volume is dedicated to the academic achievements of Karl Kaser and to the 50th anniversary of Southeast European History and Anthropology (SEEHA) at the University of Graz. These essays are interventions in a cultural contestation in South Africa during the Seventies and Eighties. Some of them are more general in nature and were written in the first instance as public oral interventions in debates whose outcome contributed to the founding of South Africa's post-apartheid society. Other essays are more specifically aimed at poetic practices, particularly as these have been of crucial aesthetic and ultimately ethical importance in a critical phase of South Africa's painful development.
