Kathy Bird and her husband Steve were a happy, senior couple when Covid hit in March 2020. A month later Kathy turned seventy and was deemed elderly. This stereotypical designation provided the impetus to set the record straight about "the older generation." Having way too much time on her hands, Kathy began writing again and a book was born. Our Golden Seasons is a series of short stories for and about seniors. Since Steve is a big part of Kathy's life and is featured in many of the funny stories in her book, it is only right he share her picture. This is Kathy's second book. She is the author of A Turquoise Life, an award winning non-fiction narrative. When Kathy isn't writing, she is reading, skiing, hiking, eating desserts and watching Denver Nuggets basketball. Presently, the possibilities are endless for this still happy, senior and now vaccinated couple.

But Kathy longs for freedom from her sheltered life and takes her first chance to get away, marrying a charming con artist who promises her the world—and leaving behind her childhood sweetheart. Staying in seedy hotels and singing in run-down clubs, she slowly finds the fame she craves. But screaming fans and hi...

Fake It, It Will Come

The dark night of the soul is a very humbling experience. You feel less than abandoned and cast away from everyone, even God. You are torn down to the depths of hell; you think light is impossible and that you are not worthy of God’s graces. Sleep deprivation goes on for what seems forever. During the void, all your senses are taken away. You also think that whatever was causing your difficulty has ended at least a million times or so. Life becomes so difficult that you want to die just to be put out of your own misery. In my particular case, I had so much pressure and pain that my survival did not seem to be an option. I believe all this happened because I asked to awaken and remember who...
