Catharsis

Very often, we engage in conversations with ourselves that allow us to empty what is at the very core of our being. Sometimes, we cast them as cares in prayers to God. Amidst the internal baggage we carry, there is a wealth of thoughts, ideas and feelings that are worth their weight in gold to friends, family, and acquaintances and even to those who are poised to be blessed, simply because we cleared our minds. Catharsis is my personal excavation of piles of stuff I carry on the inside. I parceled them off in packages of poetry. Sift through the rubble, see what you find. There are poems of withdrawal, strength, courage, compassion, hope, love and freedom - poems of war and peace. Each poem is a conversation with God that lightened my load and my life. Freedom for life and living is easily accessed after a period of Catharsis.

Send Me My Eve

Send Me My Eve is a celebration of love and life. I learned early in life that the two most important decisions we make are what professional path we need to take so that we can be of service and value to our fellow humans, and to live life to its fullest. What is equally important is our decision in choosing the best spouse, who should be a friend, confidante, lover, inspiration, and source of encouragement for the rest of our life. Only God, who has planned our lives and given us our purpose, can help us when we are messing up these decisions. This book highlights one of these challenges; it recreates the road I took to find my spouse. I was fifteen when my first love captured my heart. Lo...

Black-Water Women explores the tensions between men and women in the Guyanese culture of the 40's, 50's and 60's as well as the tensions between immigrants transplanted to the United States. The stories are told from the point of view of Sara and her mother Cleo, Tina, and Sanka, who live beside the Demerara River whose waters, black and mysterious, threaten to engulf their bodies and souls. The reader can empathize with these women whose triumphs and tragedies mirror those of women the world over. This novel also gives the reader the opportunity to explore Guyana's unique culture of the period and laugh at the characters' idiosyncrasies while sympathizing with their predicaments.

My Confession of Faith

The Bible states that the tongue has the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21). So often we are speaking death over our life and circumstances by contradicting what God has already declared to be true in His Word. God assured Joshua of prosperity and success in his life if he would do three things: 1) meditate on His Word day and night; 2) be careful to do everything written in that Word; 3) not let the Word depart from his mouth (Joshua 1:8). When we confess God’s Word out loud, we are agreeing with what He has already decreed about our situations. My Confession of Faith is a collection of declarations from the Word of God intended to be read aloud in much the same way that Jesus proclaimed repeatedly in the wilderness, “It is written!” It is a tool to help the believer “prophesy” like Ezekiel and speak life to the dry bones and difficult challenges of their life.

SKETCHES: PEOPLE-WATCHING IN THE U S of A

In People-Watching, Carmen has opened a sociological wound that festers in every village, every town every city, every country! Every poem is a picture of humanity’s artwork on the landscape of life. Pastor Kwesi Oginga Through the author’s eyes, we catch glimpses of ourselves and others sharing the crowded road on this journey called LIFE. These sketches vividly portray the innate fight for survival which takes us past fear, whether real or imagined, and the myriad accompanying emotions until we learn wherein lies our strength. As we meditate on the many scenarios presented, we are forced to agree with the saying, “There but for the grace of God go I.” Vashti Hinds
