Una influencia a veces disimulada y frecuentemente controvertida. Una concepción constitucionalista del poder político, el reconocimiento y la promoción de los derechos innatos y la necesaria sujeción de los gobernantes a la ley, forman parte del importante legado de estos doctores escolásticos al acervo intelectual europeo.

The core theme is perceptual intentionality in Suárez’s theory of the senses, external and internal, as presented in his Commentaria una cum quaestionibus in libros Aristotelis De anima published in 1621. Este libro es una síntesis de diversas investigaciones interdisciplinares en las que dialogan ciencia y filosofía sobre el apasionante tema del hombre. El estudio de determinados aspectos físicos del ser humano apunta a la existencia del espíritu, sin el cual la criatura humana, con una anómala indigencia biológica, no habría logrado sobrevivir en un mundo cambiante y hostil. A la luz de estas investigaciones, el cuerpo humano aparece como el correlato físico del alma de una criatura racional. Dos rasgos físicos, inexplicables según la zoología, hacen posible esta conclusión: por un lado, la inespecialización morfológica del cuerpo humano, que, si bien posibilita su adaptación a numerosos hábitats, lo hace muy vulnerable; por otro, la indeterminación de la conducta humana, que, desasistida o liberada dependiendo de la perspectiva que se adopte del instinto animal, se encuentra en la perentoria necesidad de conducirse, a sí misma, bajo la guía de la razón.
