Naming Gotham

The Van Wyck, the Major Deegan, the Jackie Robinson, the Hutch, the Merritt, FDR Drive, or the Henry Hudson...you might drive them regularly, without really noticing that those road names are, well, names. But, who were these people? New York City's many roads, bridges, neighborhoods and institutions bear the names of a colorful assortment of people from key periods in the city's history. Learning about the people iconic Gotham landmarks are named for is a unique window into the history of the greatest city in the world. Author Rebecca Bratspies takes readers on a place-based, intimate, historical journey on a human scale.

A library must function with integrity in order to function well. This book looks at a broad range of library functions through the lens of integrity and ethics. This largely unexplored area of study is handled exceptionally well by the library and information professionals contained in these pages. This book addresses the ethical and integrity issues that may come up in the day to day workings of the library as well considerations for the ethical education of our future librarians. Within a framework based on the ethical issues that are attached with information management, this book examines the impact of the US Patriot Act, library authentication and access management, plagiarism and social networking. This material was published in the Journal of Library Administration.

Toxicologic Assessment of the Army's Zinc Cadmium Sulfide Dispersion Tests

During the 1950s and 1960s, the U.S. Army conducted atmospheric dispersion tests in many American cities using fluorescent particles of zinc cadmium sulfide (ZnCdS) to develop and verify meteorological models to estimate the dispersal of aerosols. Upon learning of the tests, many citizens and some public health officials in the affected cities raised concerns about the health consequences of the tests. This book assesses the public health effects of the Army's tests, including the toxicity of ZnCdS, the toxicity of surrogate cadmium compounds, the environmental fate of ZnCdS, the extent of public exposures from the dispersion tests, and the risks of such exposures.
