The Human Rights to Water and Sanitation

This analysis of the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation (HRtWS) uncovers why some groups around the world are still excluded from these rights. Léo Heller, former United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights to water and sanitation, draws on his own research in nine countries and reviews the theoretical, legal, and political issues involved. The first part presents the origins of the HRtWS, their legal and normative meanings and the debates surrounding them. Part II discusses the drivers, mainly external to the water and sanitation sector, that shape public policies and explain why individuals and groups are included in or excluded from access to services. In Part III, public policies guided by the realization of HRtWS are addressed. Part IV highlights populations and spheres of living that have been particularly neglected in efforts to promote access to services.

Heller's Angels

September 1943. The world is at war. Leo Avery has been left with nothing. His home is gone, destroyed in the Blitz, and his only family – his father – has mysteriously vanished. When Leo is attacked by a terrifying creature, he is saved from death by a group of strangers calling themselves Angels. Led by the enigmatic Dr Heller, this rag-tag band of hunters wield strange, arcane powers, using them in the fight against monsters they know as ‘dreadfoul’. Leo is soon thrust into a war against the very worst man and myth have to offer, battling both the dreadfoul and the men who intend to use them to create an unstoppable army. With the threat of Armageddon looming ever closer, Leo quickly finds himself torn between his new destiny and the search for his missing father – only to find the two are more closely linked than he could ever have possibly imagined.

Rabbi Max Heller

This biography of a pioneering Zionist and leader of American Reform Judaism adds significantly to our understanding of American and southern Jewish history. Max Heller was a man of both passionate conviction and inner contradiction. He sought to be at the center of current affairs, not as a spokesperson of centrist opinion, but as an agitator or mediator, constantly struggling to find an acceptable path as he confronted the major issues of the day--racism and Jewish emancipation in eastern Europe, nationalism and nativism, immigration and assimilation. Heller's life experience provides a distinct vantage point from which to view the complexity of race relations in New Orleans and the South ...
