The Oxford Handbook of Grammatical Number
This volume offers detailed accounts of current research in grammatical number in language. Following a detailed introduction, the chapters in the first three parts of the book explore the multiple research questions in the field and the complex problems surrounding the analysis of grammatical number: Part I presents the background and foundational notions, Part II the morphological, semantic, and syntactic aspects, and Part III the different means of expressing plurality in the event domain. The final part offers fifteen case studies that include in-depth discussion of grammatical number phenomena in a range of typologically diverse languages, written by - or in collaboration with - native speakers linguists or based on extensive fieldwork. The volume draws on work from a range of subdisciplines - including morphology, syntax, semantics, and psycholinguistics - and will be a valuable resource for students and scholars in all areas of theoretical, descriptive, and experimental linguistics.
Wh-exclamatives, Imperatives and Wh-questions
Research on left periphery phenomena has increased in the last 20 years, resulting in consistent studies from a wide range of languages and a fruitful debate on the functional projections within the CP system. Throughout these years, important contributions have been made on Brazilian Portuguese, especially on wh-interrogative sentences, focalization, topicalization and relative clauses. As for exclamative and imperative sentences, however, there is a considerable research gap in all grammatical levels. Regarding interrogatives, semantic and prosodic studies are still lacking (as well as research on the acquisition and processing of these constructions). This collected volume fills some of those gaps, gathering studies on wh-exclamatives, imperatives and wh-questions in Brazilian Portuguese which approach syntactical, semantical and prosodic aspects of these constructions through a rich and unregistered set of data. They also deliver novel acquisition and diachronic data that will further both the comprehension of Brazilian Portuguese grammar and the ongoing discussions on left periphery phenomena.
New Perspectives on Bare Noun Phrases in Romance and Beyond
This book envisions the study of bare noun phrases as a field of research in its own right rather than an accessory matter in the wider domain of nominal determination. Combining insights from different theoretical backgrounds and extending the empirical coverage of bare noun phenomena, the ten contributions provide new perspectives on long-standing but still actively debated problems as well as investigations into previously ignored issues. The volume focuses on the wide range of bare noun phenomena in Romance languages, including Spanish, Catalan, Brazilian and European Portuguese, Italian and French; but also widens its inherently comparative perspective to languages such as Bulgarian and Modern Hebrew. The authors discuss the importance of cross-linguistic patterns in the modeling of the syntax and semantics of noun phrases and of common noun denotations, the role of information structure as well as that of discourse traditions and coordination.

Estudos sobre a Teoria Pura do Direito
Nos anos 10 e 20 do século passado, ganhou forma uma particular doutrina, quando HANS KELSEN, instigado por um grupo de alunos brilhantes, mudou para sempre a história da teoria do direito. Na sequência, em 1933, como síntese dessas investigações, adveio um "pequeno livro" intitulado Teoria Pura do Direito e, a partir daí, por mais de um quarto de século, estudou-se, debateu-se e criticou-se tal linha de pensamento com um interesse ímpar, o que acabou motivando, em 1960, seu autor, já com quase 80 anos, a lançar uma segunda edição. Evento que renovou, então, o interesse pela obra, o qual, aliás, continua até hoje, pois, por um lado, trata-se de um clássico, opus perpetuum, mas, por outro, corresponde a uma obra aberta, perpetuum mobile, que não se esgota e sempre permite novas leituras. E agora, completados 60 anos da publicação de sua segunda edição, nada mais justo para com HANS KELSEN e sua Teoria Pura do Direito que recebam esta homenagem.
