Dispersed Reflections

They are a collection of personal reflections and some are detailed notes on some topics mostly related to scriptures and social issues. They are all underlined by moral and ethical strains in the form of reflections and annotations. Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and other ancient books are the major components of the themes of writing. Some brief writings are the annotations of the scriptural texts. The collection also includes some poems written in English. Some are reviews and prefaces written by scholars on the author’s published books. The total general mood of writings contained in the book is reflective of social, cultural, and spiritual matters.

Linda Ashok's Waiting for the Helicopter is leeway to her expressions-an escape of a whirlpool of thoughts that remained confined, perhaps, until she had the guts to pen them. Ashok asserts that "there is no news" of "the volcano that fought her own anger." She confirms that there is no clue of the roads either, which are "born to lead the lost." In this collection, a quandary prevails-whether or not to air grievances, or whether or not to keep issues wrapped. Ashok's concern is also evident for "the man who drilled his chest for songs!" Her discontent is palpable, especially for the acute lack of documentation of the children who sew "village to life." Absence of understanding upsets Ashok-...

"The Best Indian Poetry modeled after the Best American Poetry series is an attempt to raise the exposure for poetry produced in this subcontinent. Although there are many anthologies published in the country, there is no one anthology that brings the published works of the established, the fairly new and debutant poets together for a foreign reader's speculation," says Linda Ashok, MidDay, Mumbai, Jul 29, 2018

Guds ord vann spridning

Portable Roots

This book was born from my experiences in the IOWA International Writing Program and my innumerable trips to the US. During the 20 years between 1970 and 1990, was conscious of the stormy changes engulfing middle class Indians there. These edcuated families had migrated after the 60's to the Promised Land for reasons of their own. During their long, successful journeys, they were stopped short by the problems facing their teenage children, particularly their daughters. Ini (which in Tamil, means 'Hereafter') – written in 1993 – is about the dilemmas they faced. Ini was roughly translated by Mr. M.M. Subramaniam, living in the US, so that his teenaged daughter could read it. ‘Ini' evolved into Portable Roots... through an interesting collaboration with my friend of many years, Rekha Shetty. Her sociological insights into the changing lives of the Indian Diaspora, have resulted in this transcreation of my original work. - Sivasankari
