A handbook of operating techniques in cardiac surgery
Every member of the surgical team usually has a personal journal with notes and diagrams. I too have always put all I appreciated into my little notebook of diagrams and notes, whenever I learned anything valuable in a case. I find it useful even now to revise my notes before I sleep on the night before a challenging case. This handbook was derived from that habit, and it will help you see what unique things I saw during my training in India. We all know that there are deficiencies in learning cardiac surgery from books, a single surgical tutor or a small institute doing less work. By giving you concisely all the basic steps of each operation, we aim to make the team’s training period a lot easier, the learning curve shorter and you will then be a more confident cardiac surgical trainee. Allostasis, Homeostasis, and the Costs of Physiological Adaptation
The concept of homeostasis, the maintenance of the internal physiological environment of an organism within tolerable limits, is well established in medicine and physiology. In contrast, allostasis is a relatively new idea of 'viability through change'. With allostatic regulation by cephalic involvement, the body adapts to potentially diverse and dangerous situations through the activation of neural, hormonal, or immunological mechanisms. Allostasis explains how regulatory events maintain organismic viability, or not, in diverse contexts with varying set points of bodily needs and competing motivations.
