Every member of the surgical team usually has a personal journal with notes and diagrams. I too have always put all I appreciated into my little notebook of diagrams and notes, whenever I learned anything valuable in a case. I find it useful even now to revise my notes before I sleep on the night before a challenging case. This handbook was derived from that habit, and it will help you see what unique things I saw during my training in India. We all know that there are deficiencies in learning cardiac surgery from books, a single surgical tutor or a small institute doing less work. By giving you concisely all the basic steps of each operation, we aim to make the team’s training period a lot easier, the learning curve shorter and you will then be a more confident cardiac surgical trainee. This, I hope, will help your mentor find you as a very capable person to teach. Cheers and all the very best!

Righteous Republic

What India’s founders derived from Western political traditions as they struggled to free their country from colonial rule is widely understood. Less well-known is how India’s own rich knowledge traditions of two and a half thousand years influenced these men as they set about constructing a nation in the wake of the Raj. In Righteous Republic, Ananya Vajpeyi furnishes this missing account, a ground-breaking assessment of modern Indian political thought. Taking five of the most important founding figures—Mohandas Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Abanindranath Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru, and B. R. Ambedkar—Vajpeyi looks at how each of them turned to classical texts in order to fashion an or...

Is it possible to identify the positive and negative effects of globalization on religious tourism or to estimate the transformation of the internal and external constructs of pilgrimage by these effects? In order to address these questions, this book highlights the importance of the search for identity and transformative experience during religious tourism. It also looks at how, recently, globalization has played a part in the changes of the concept of personal and social identity and the transformative experience of pilgrimage. This book will be suitable for researchers and students of religious tourism, pilgrimage, identity tourism, as well as related subjects such as sociology, anthropology, psychology, theology, history and cultural studies.
