Van Rensselaer Potter created and defined the term "bioethics" in 1970, to describe a new philosophy that sought to integrate biology, ecology, medicine, and human values. Bioethics is often linked to environmental ethics and stands in sharp contrast to biomedical ethics. Because of this confusion (and appropriation of the term in medicine), Potter chose to use the term "Global Bioethics" in 1988. Potter's definition of bioethics from Global Bioethics is, "Biology combined with diverse humanistic knowledge forging a science that sets a system of medical and environmental priorities for acceptable survival."
The new and updated edition of Conducting Educational Research blends scientific investigation with systematic development and implementation of solutions to educational problems. With relevant examples and new insights this volume demonstrates how rigorous and relevant investigation can yield theoretical understanding and solutions.
This second edition of Project-Based Learning (PBL) presents an original approach to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) centric PBL. We define PBL as an “ill-defined task with a well-defined outcome,” which is consistent with our engineering design philosophy and the accountability highlighted in a standards-based environment. This model emphasizes a backward design that is initiated by well-defined outcomes, tied to local, state, or national standard that provide teachers with a framework guiding students’ design, solving, or completion of ill-defined tasks. This book was designed for middle and secondary teachers who want to improve engagement and provide context...
Israel Kirzner is the foremost proponent of the modern Austrian theory of the market process. This book offers substantive insights in support of this theory and a new historical interpretation of how the ideas of modern Austrians emerged.
This book take readers through the step-by-step process of how to create, implement, and assess project based learning (PBL) using a classroom-tested framework. Also included are chapters for school leaders on implementing PBL system wide and the use of PBL in informal settings.
The digital revolution that we have experienced since the last quarter of the twentieth century has had some influence, yet to be analysed and extended, on the way mathematics is made, taught and learned. While the rate of innovation in these technologies is growing exponentially, the potential impact of most information technologies on mathematical education remains to be fully exploited. In particular, several authoritative voices point out that the technology that will most likely transform education in the coming years is artificial intelligence (AI). Interestingly, today AI is mainly associated with technologies to automate tasks and lower costs, thus serving primarily the interests of ...
