Elites políticas e legislação social na Primeira República (1891-1926)
Com base em documentos inéditos, a elite política da Primeira República brasileira é analisada a partir das fontes primárias em seus discursos nos Anais e Diários do Congresso Nacional. A proposição de legislação social tanto trabalhista como da previdência é estudada ao se pensar o parlamento enquanto arena decisória e ambiente para a construção de consensos entre os poderes dirigentes. O poder Legislativo não seria dócil ao simplesmente acatar as orientações do poder Executivo somente com base na Política dos Governadores, tampouco se tratava de uma elite homogênea, com um comportamento defensivo e contrário à ampliação de direitos e proteção aos assalariados. O atraso para que se aprovasse medidas de proteção ao trabalho se deu em grande medida pela dificuldade em alterar as regras do jogo institucional entre os atores políticos. Ao reformar a Constituição de 1891 e modificar o pacto federativo em 1926, foi permitido ao Congresso Nacional legislar sobre o trabalho.

Dynamics of the Pantanal Wetland in South America
This book provides readers with in-depth insights into the changes in the Pantanal wetland from its formation to the actual and likely future states. It reveals that today’s Pantanal is an evolutionary consequence of geological, ecological and, more recently, man-made events taking place at distinct space-time intervals. Topics include geotectonics and sun-earth interactions, which largely dictate the rate of drastic changes that eventually disrupt ecological stability and radically rebuild the regional landscape. Furthermore, the biota-climate system is discussed as a major driver reshaping the ecohydrology functioning of the landscape on an intermediate timescale. State of the Art in Nano-bioimaging
Nano-bioimaging is a real-time observation method for the study of biological processes in subcellular structures and entire cells. This technique aims to interfere as little as possible with life processes using nanoscale materials and probes. In this method, nanoscale photon source is often used for imaging, and 3D structure of the observed specimen is studied in detail without physical interference. Over the last decade, further boost in bioimaging has led to increase the nano-bioimaging impact that includes many improvements in the data analysis method, image processing, and molecular imaging technology. However, to increase the usage of nano-bioimaging, several developments in the field of diagnosis accuracy, photobleaching prevention, and controlling of the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) must be achieved. The purpose of this book is to provide a perspective on the current status of nano-bioimaging technologies.
