Molecular Ecology and Conservation Genetics of Neotropical Mammals
Although all living beings modify their environment, human beings have acquired the ability to do so on a superlative space-time scale. As a result of industrialization and the use of new technologies, the anthropogenic impact has been increasing in the last centuries, causing reductions in the sizes or the extinction of numerous wild populations. In this sense, from the field of conservation genetics, various efforts have been made in recent decades to provide new knowledge that contributes to the conservation of populations, species, and habitats. In this book, we summarize the concrete contributions of researchers to the conservation of the Neotropical mammals using Molecular Ecology techniques. The book is divided into three major sections. The first section provides an up-to-date review of the conservation status of Neotropical mammals, the applications of the molecular markers in its conservation, and the use of non-invasive and forensic genetic techniques. The second and third sections present, respectively, a series of case studies in various species or taxonomic groups of Neotropical mammals.

La publicación: Retos locales y regionales para la conservación de la fauna acuática del sur de la Amazonia colombiana, es el resultado de un intenso trabajo desarrollado con el proyecto: Acciones para el Uso, Manejo y Conservación de la Fauna Acuática Amenazada, idea dibujada en el Corregimiento de la Pedrera (Amazonas), que se transformó en una realidad con la suma de muchos esfuerzos y en el año 2007 logró cristalizarse como iniciativa FACUAM. El libro busca entender que los procesos de transformación por los que hoy atraviesa la Amazonia colombiana, conducen a un deterioro acelerado de sus ecosistemas, nos permite comprender que la mayor amenaza de las especies, es la pérdida de sus hábitats.

About Trees considers our relationship with language, landscape, perception, and memory in the Anthropocene. The book includes texts and artwork by a stellar line up of contributors including Jorge Luis Borges, Andrea Bowers, Ursula K. Le Guin, Ada Lovelace and dozens of others. Holten was artist in residence at Buro BDP. While working on the book she created an alphabet and used it to make a new typeface called Trees. She also made a series of limited edition offset prints based on her Tree Drawings.

Este libro expone los resultados de un reconocimiento regional sistemático en un área de 277 Km2 que incluyó parte de los actuales municipios de Tunja, Motavita, Cómbita, Oicatá, Chivatá, Boyacá, Samacá, Sora y Cucaita, (Boyacá-Colombia). Su objetivo fue aportar en la comprensión del origen y desarrollo del cacicazgo de Tunja, descrito por los españoles en el siglo XVI como uno de los dos más grandes en el altiplano cundiboyacense, mediante el análisis de los patrones de asentamiento prehispánico. Los resultados problematizan la tradicional imagen sobre los grandes y poderosos cacicazgos muiscas y abren nuevas vías de análisis respecto a la naturaleza de los procesos de complejización social en esta área del país.
