New Light on Luke
This radical new interpretation reveals many connections between Luke and Johannine traditions. Comparision of pericopae shared by Luke and John suggests that the usual assumptions of Lukan priority may be mistaken; instead his may be chronologically the fourth gospel. Luke neverthless treats his sources in different ways, his response being both critical and creative. He aims to give security to Christians by including as much as possible and reconciling conflicting traditions, while firmly excluding heretical misinterpretation. Shellard also includes a consideration of Luke's use of possible sources, both canonical and extra-canonical, and places Luke-Acts in its literary context, noting among other things the presentation of Rome as a facilitatator of evangelization and a promoter of co-existence. Studies in the Gospel of Luke
This volume offers a collection of Lukan studies by Adelbert Denaux, whose preferred field of studies has been the Gospel of Luke for many years. The thirteen papers collected in this volume have been delivered in different languages and on different occasions. This volume is a product of the Luke-Acts Task Force of the Catholic Biblical Association. The intended readership of this collection of articles is threefold. The introductory essays address the relative beginner in Biblical studies as well as those who do not specialize in Luke and Acts. Luke and the Restoration of Israel
Ravens argues that Luke's belief in God's restoration of Israel provides the key context for understanding Luke-Acts. His attitudes to Jews, his surveys of Israel's history and his interest in the Samaritans combine to suggest his wider, pre-Davidic, view of Israel-a view that becomes the pattern for the restored Israel under its Davidic king. Luke's belief leads him to present Christology and atonement in ways that cohere with Jewish hopes and to correct apparently anti-Jewish elements in Paul's letters and Matthew's Gospel.
