Electrochemistry of Technetium

Electrochemistry of Technetium

This book provides detailed information on the electrochemistry of technetium compounds. After a brief physico-chemical characterization of this element, it presents the comparative chemistry of technetium, manganese and rhenium. Particular attention is paid to the stability, disproportionation, comproportionation, hydrolysis and polymerization reactions of technetium ions and their influence on the observed redox systems. The electrochemical properties of both inorganic as well as organic technetium species in aqueous and non-aqueous solutions are also discussed. The respective chapters cover the whole spectrum of topics related to the application of technetium in nuclear medicine, electrochemistry of technetium in spent nuclear fuel (including corrosion properties of technetium alloys), and detecting trace amounts of technetium with the aid of electrochemical methods. Providing readers with information not easily obtained in any other single source, the book will appeal to researchers working in nuclear chemistry, nuclear medicine or the nuclear industry.

The eukaryotic genome is highly organized in both space and sequence. From entire chromosomes to individual genes the 3D organization of the genome is linked to transcription and many regulatory mechanisms likely coexist at different scales. At the sub-megabase scale, the genome is physically organized into self-interacting topologically associating domains (TADs) that are thought to constrain the range of action of gene regulatory elements called 'enhancers'. Current data suggest that TADs serve as 'regulatory units' to coregulate multiple genes by exposing them to the same enhancers. Genes from the same TAD indeed often display correlated expression across different tissues and cell types....

The Resistible Rise of Antisemitism

The Resistible Rise of Antisemitism

Antisemitism emerged toward the end of the nineteenth century as a powerful political movement with broad popular appeal. It promoted a vision of the world in which a closely-knit tribe called “the Jews” conspired to dominate the globe through control of international finance at the highest levels of commerce and money lending in the towns and villages. This tribe at the same time maneuvered to destroy the very capitalist system it was said to control through its devotion to the cause of revolution. It is easy to draw a straight line from this turn-of-the-century paranoid thinking to the murderous delusions of twentieth-century fascism. Yet the line was not straight. Antisemitism as a po...

After our successful first Special Issue about bladder cancer, we proceeded with the second issue. Again, many international scientists submitted their newest research results in that extremely interesting field and followed our call for submissions. It is not only the collection and combination of old and new markers that could develop new possibilities, but also the focus on different classifications and sub-classifications that will unveil new ways in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. It seems that the two established diagnostic tools will still play an important role, but new markers and diagnostics tools will present more detailed and more differentiated possibilities in the treatm...

Computational Chemistry: Reviews Of Current Trends, Vol. 2

The contributions collected in this volume complement volume 1 of this series, disclosing results of current developments in methodologies and applications of computational chemistry methods. The covered topics include fundamentals and applications of propagator calculations, as well as recent developments in the computationally efficient and accurate SAC-CI method, which allows calculation of various electronic states at the same time. SAC-CI studies of excited states of large molecular systems like porphyrins are reviewed, and its application to investigations of surface phenomena is discussed. The book also features a review of recent work on quantum Monte Carlo simulations.Furthermore, t...

The Rule of Benedict

In his introduction to this commentary on the Rule of Benedict, Abbot Georg Holzherr offers this analogy: "The Rule is comparable to an old heavy red wine that is enjoyed in small sips. . . . Head and heart, soul and mind should taste the words of the Rule, just as the eye enjoys the color of the wine while tongue, nose, and mouth take in the delightful gift of God each in their own way." In this new translation, based on the completely revised seventh edition of DieBenediktsregel, Holzherr has created a profoundly rich commentary using up-to-date research methods and the latest translations of ancient monastic texts. At the same time, this commentary is meant not only for experts in the fie...
