El ensayo de tensión es muy usado en la industria y la investigación para obtener información útil para la selección de materiales, el control de calidad, el diseño de piezas y de herramientas, la evaluación de fallas de materiales y la determinación de los métodos más convenientes en su proceso de transformación a productos. En esta cartilla se presentan los principios del ensayo de tensión y el análisis de los datos obtenidos para el cálculo de las diferentes propiedades de los materiales. También incluye una guía de laboratorio para efectuar ensayos de tensión en el Centro de Automatización Industrial (CTAI) de acuerdo con la norma ISO.
Ensayos y propiedades de los materiales
Conocer las propiedades de los materiales y las formas de medirlas es importante para el diseño y la optimización de procesos de manufactura y el desarrollo de nuevos productos. En esta cartilla los estudiantes del curso Ciencia de los Materiales, de Ingeniería Industrial, encontrarán la definición de propiedades importantes, su clasificación y los tipos de ensayos de los materiales, con especial énfasis en las propiedades mecánicas. También se incluyen ejercicios de análisis de las propiedades de los materiales en relación con el desempeño esperado de un producto y se exponen los principios de la normalización y su importancia a la hora de desarrollar los ensayos de materiales.
Ensayos de dureza
La dureza es la resistencia de la superficie de un material al ser rayado o penetrado bajo una fuerza estática ejercida por un objeto que no sufre deformaciones. Esta es una de las propiedades mecánicas más importantes porque determina los procesos de corte y acabado superficial en la manufactura a bajo costo y permite la interpretación de las medidas con facilidad. En esta cartilla se presenta en forma detallada el concepto de dureza y su variación de acuerdo con el tipo de materiales y se hace una descripción detallada de los diferentes ensayos de medición de dureza. Adicionalmente, incluye la guía de laboratorio para la medición de la microdureza Vickers en el Centro de Automatización Industrial (CTAI) de acuerdo con la norma ISO.
Fundamentos de ingeniería
Para los estudiantes de ingeniería es fundamental aplicar los conceptos de sistemas, cambios de unidades, prefijos y homogeneidad dimensional. Aunque estos son conceptos fundamentales, no quiere decir que sean fáciles de aplicar. Esta cartilla presenta la teoría de sistemas y cambios de unidades, prefijos y homogeneidad dimensional e incluye varios ejemplos y ejercicios enfocados en las necesidades del curso Ciencia de los Materiales y de otras asignaturas de ingeniería. Lo anterior, con el fin de facilitar la aplicación de estos conceptos a los estudiantes de los primeros semestres de Ingeniería Industrial.
