The methodological book ""Laboratory techniques in cellular and molecular medicine"" is intended for students of bachelor, master, and doctoral study programmes at faculties of science, medicine, and veterinary medicine, as well as for laboratory technicians interested in methodological approaches of contemporary cellular and molecular medicine. The book does not aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in cellular and molecular medicine, that would be a superhuman task. The aim of the 56-member author team is to provide readers with an overview of the methods established and tested at the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine of the Faculty of Medi...
The strategy of the British and French prior to World War II was to preserve the status quo after the disaster of World War I. Donald Stoker's book examines British and French involvement from 1919 to 1939 in the creation and development of the naval forces of Poland, Finland and the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This is an in-depth scholarly study of a subject that should appeal to students of international history, strategy, international relations and naval history in general.
"We are living in an era of veritable STEM obsession. Not only do tech companies dominate our cultural imagination of American enterprise and financial growth, we urgently need science-based solutions to impending crises. As a society, we have poured enormous resources into cultivating young minds for STEM careers. The US sponsors 209 distinct STEM education programs in 13 different federal agencies at a cost of more than $3 billion. This spending is on top of countless initiatives from philanthropic foundations and corporate giving. And yet, we are facing a STEM worker crisis. In this project, sociologist John D. Skrentny asks, if we're investing so much in STEM education, why are as many a...
Securitizing Balance of Power Theory: A Polymorphic Reconceptualization by Ilai Z. The DPG was chosen as a research institution to assist in the deliberations of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament, constituted by the Australian and Japanese governments. The support of the NTI to DPG's efforts has been immense and definitive. The first decade of 21st century has seen a resurgence of support for global nuclear disarmament. A cascade of nuclear disarmament proposal has emerged from different sources. India has consistently favored complete global nuclear disarmament, even as it laid the foundations of a nuclear energy programme. Notwithstanding the nuclear tests, Indian policy on global nuclear disarmament has not been disavowed. Global ...
A hands-on introduction to machine learning and its applications to the physical sciences As the size and complexity of data continue to grow exponentially across the physical sciences, machine learning is helping scientists to sift through and analyze this information while driving breathtaking advances in quantum physics, astronomy, cosmology, and beyond. This incisive textbook covers the basics of building, diagnosing, optimizing, and deploying machine learning methods to solve research problems in physics and astronomy, with an emphasis on critical thinking and the scientific method. Using a hands-on approach to learning, Machine Learning for Physics and Astronomy draws on real-world, pu...
This work examines the CFE Treaty as a factor in Russia’s foreign and security policy. Moscow showed amazing persistence in their relationship with the "cornerstone of European security." Their approach to the treaty was a genuine attempt to shape the security environment in Europe and the former USSR. The treaty also enabled the dismantling of large conventional forces as they returned from Eastern Europe and transitioned into the armies of the newly independent states of the former USSR. The CFE Treaty, though, proved ineffective at constraining the enlargement of NATO. Simultaneously, Moscow’s foreign and security policy evolved from one that focused on the domestic development of the...
