Este livro trata da relação entre sustentabilidade e turismo. A atividade econômica em questão tem sido vista na contemporaneidade como um importante instrumento de desenvolvimento de localidades, regiões e países – em razão da geração de emprego e renda em diversos setores da economia (hotelaria, alimentos, lazer, produção cultural, transportes, entre outros). Por outro lado, ela também é responsável por acarretar danos ao meio ambiente, por meio da destruição de recursos naturais, da poluição ambiental e da descaracterização sociocultural. A análise da relação sustentabilidade-turismo é o que estrutura este livro, que busca capturar esse momento de transição no processo reflexivo sobre essa temática de construção de um (novo) conceito e de uma (outra) ética e de emergência de uma mentalidade multifacetada, que leva em conta o econômico (a satisfação de necessidades materiais), mas também o ecológico, o filosófico, o político, o cultural e o social na construção da riqueza dos homens.

Foreign Banks
This paper introduces a comprehensive database on bank ownership for 137 countries over 1995-2009, and reviews foreign bank behavior and impact. It documents substantial increases in foreign bank presence, with many more home and host countries. Current market shares of foreign banks average 20 percent in OECD countries and 50 percent elsewhere. Foreign banks have higher capital and more liquidity, but lower profitability than domestic banks do. Only in developing countries is foreign bank presence negatively related with domestic credit creation. During the global crisis foreign banks reduced credit more compared to domestic banks, except when they dominated the host banking systems.

Im Mittelpunkt des Buches steht die Frage, ob sich im Zuge der Globalisierung neoliberale und Managementprinzipien in den Industrieunternehmen Brasiliens etablieren. Unter Rückgriff auf quantitative und qualitative Methoden wird empirisch untersucht, inwiefern Veränderungen im Karriereverlauf der Topmanager zu einem Wandel ihrer Wert- und Handlungsorientierungen beitragen. Es wird aufgezeigt, welche Selektionsmechanismen die Herausbildung der brasilianischen Wirtschaftselite begünstigen und auf welche Deutungsmuster diese bei der Bewältigung von Führungssituationen zurückgreift. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Sozialisation der Manager in der Organisation und das spezifische institutionelle Arrangement Brasiliens maßgeblich die managerielle Handlung der Wirtschaftselite prägen.
