William Marion Bristol was born in Illinois in 1859, the son of Solomon and Adaline Hall Moss Bristol. He married Frances Howe Dearborn, the daughter of Daniel and Lucinda Berger Dearborn Bristol. Their children were Howard, Marion, Warren and Helen. William moved to California around 1882. He lived a varied life, writer, inventor, rock worker, landowner, orange grower.
