Analysis in Banach Spaces
The present volume develops the theory of integration in Banach spaces, martingales and UMD spaces, and culminates in a treatment of the Hilbert transform, Littlewood-Paley theory and the vector-valued Mihlin multiplier theorem. Over the past fifteen years, motivated by regularity problems in evolution equations, there has been tremendous progress in the analysis of Banach space-valued functions and processes. The contents of this extensive and powerful toolbox have been mostly scattered around in research papers and lecture notes. Collecting this diverse body of material into a unified and accessible presentation fills a gap in the existing literature. The principal audience that we have in mind consists of researchers who need and use Analysis in Banach Spaces as a tool for studying problems in partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, and stochastic analysis. Self-contained and offering complete proofs, this work is accessible to graduate students and researchers with a background in functional analysis or related areas.
Gravity, Geoid and Earth Observation
These Proceedings include the written version of papers presented at the IAG International Symposium on "Gravity, Geoid and Earth Observation 2008". The Symposium was held in Chania, Crete, Greece, 23-27 June 2008 and organized by the Laboratory of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, Technical University of Crete, Greece. The meeting was arranged by the International Association of Geodesy and in particular by the IAG Commission 2: Gravity Field. The symposium aimed at bringing together geodesists and geophysicists working in the general areas of gravity, geoid, geodynamics and Earth observation. Besides covering the traditional research areas, special attention was paid to the use of geodetic methods for: Earth observation, environmental monitoring, Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS), Earth Gravity Models (e.g., EGM08), geodynamics studies, dedicated gravity satellite missions (i.e., GOCE), airborne gravity surveys, Geodesy and geodynamics in polar regions, and the integration of geodetic and geophysical information.
Calculus with Curvilinear Coordinates
This book presents problems and solutions in calculus with curvilinear coordinates. Vector analysis can be performed in different coordinate systems, an optimal system considers the symmetry of the problem in order to reduce calculatory difficulty. The book presents the material in arbitrary orthogonal coordinates, and includes the discussion of parametrization methods as well as topics such as potential theory and integral theorems. The target audience primarily comprises university teachers in engineering mathematics, but the book may also be beneficial for advanced undergraduate and graduate students alike.

Op het achttiende-eeuwse toneel verschenen regelmatig personages die zich het leven benamen, zoals de vaderlandslievende Cato en de liederlijke vorst Sardanapalus. Behalve vaderlands- en vrijheidsliefde of gefrustreerde machtswellust kon ook een gefnuikte liefde tot zelfmoord of zelfs dubbele zelfmoord leiden. Fameuze voorbeelden hiervan zijn Dido, Phaedra en Piramus en Thisbe. In Theatrale zelfmoord onderzoekt Anna de Haas de karakters en beweegredenen van dergelijke zelfmoordenaars en de context waarin deze hun – bij wet strafbare – daad konden volvoeren. Ook de kritiek op de toneelzelfmoord, in de vorm van beargumenteerde afwijzing of persiflage, krijgt een plaats, evenals de nieuwe soorten zelfmoordenaars die tegen het eind van de eeuw in toneelstukken werden opgevoerd. Ten slotte wordt de vraag gesteld of de zelfmoord ook daadwerkelijk op het toneel werd vertoond en, zo ja, hoe. Theatrale zelfmoord is de eerste Nederlandse studie over dit onderwerp.
