Es zeigt sich, daß ironische Äußerungen kommunikativ als negative Bewertungen wirken, aufgrund ihrer indirekten Ausdrucksweise aber ein beachtliches Wirkungsspektrum entfalten. Dieses wird anhand zahlreicher Belege aus dem Korpus detailliert analysiert und auf soziale Gruppenprozesse der Aushandlung, Bestätigung und Abgrenzung von gemeinsamen Wertmaßstäben bezogen.

John Hartung Jr. (1807-1887), son of John Michael Hartung Sr. (b.ca. 1780) and Anna Margaret Elsessen, immigrated in 1829 with a half-brother, Johann Martin Zirkel, from Germany to Baltimore, Maryland, and moved to land near Pittsburgh or Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He married Salome Schramm in 1831, settled in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and moved in 1855 to Butler County, Pennsylvania. Other family members immigrated from Germany to join them. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and elsewhere. Includes history of the Hartung Association, and many of its family reunions.
