This compilation of articles by Dr. T. W. Hooper, Joseph R. Haw, and Miss Mary Jane Haw written in the late 19th and early 20th centuries is augmented by maps, details of family home places. Taylor has carefully inserted genealogical references and an entire section from the 1850 census to aid researchers. It is of special interest and value to the present day as it tells first hand of life in Hanover County before and immediately after the Civil War. As Hanover County is a "burned record county" with few records before 1865, these memoirs add greatly to the county's history. Genealogists will find the careful notation by Taylor helpful in the search for detail about these related families.
