Eating disorders can profoundly affect the individual and family unit. Changes in the individual include disturbances in body perception, organ damage, and increased risk factors leading to ill-health in later years. There is thus a fundamental requirement to adequately diagnose, treat and manage those individuals with eating disorders which the American Psychiatric Association have recently categorized (DSM-5) into Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Other Specified- and Unspecified-Feeding or Eating Disorders. The aim of this reference work is to describe, in one comprehensive resource, the complex relationships between eating disorders, diet, and nutrition. In th...
Major limb amputation affects a large number of people worldwide, with estimates in the United States as high as 2 million. One of the most common conditions following limb amputation is phantom limb sensation. The majority of patients who have undergone traumatic limb loss also experience phantom limb pain (PLP). There is no consensus on potential differences in the frequency or severity of phantom pain between men and women. This project is seeking out studies that look at the experience of PLP: what people feel, frequency and duration of PLP episodes, if there is a difference in experience between men and women, as well as if there is a relationship between PLP experiences and cause of am...
This two-volume set LNCS 14233-14234 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing, ICIAP 2023, held in Udine, Italy, during September 11–15, 2023. The 85 full papers presented together with 7 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 144 submissions. The conference focuses on video analysis and understanding; pattern recognition and machine learning; deep learning; multi-view geometry and 3D computer vision; image analysis, detection and recognition; multimedia; biomedical and assistive technology; digital forensics and biometrics; image processing for cultural heritage; and robot vision.

The exploration of the subnuclear world is done through increasingly complex experiments covering a wide range of energy and performed in a large variety of environments from particle accelerators, underground detectors to satellites and space laboratory. The achievement of these research programs calls for novel techniques, new materials and instrumentation to be used in detectors, often of large scale. Therefore, fundamental physics is at the forefront of technological advance and also leads to many applications. Among these, medical applications have a particular importance due to health and social benefits they bring to the public.
How did propertied families in late medieval and early modern Florence maintain their power and affluence while clans elsewhere were fatally undermined by the growth of commerce and personal freedom and the consequences of the Plague? Molho suggests that the answer is found in the twin institutions of arranged marriage and the dowry.
This book presents the proceedings of SICC 2017, a conference devoted to promoting the dissemination of the different methodologies, techniques, theories, strategies, technologies and best practices on the prevention and mitigation of CBRNE risks. As the first scientific international conference on safety & security issues in the CBRNE field, SICC 2017 attracted contributions resulting from fruitful inter-professional collaborations between university and military experts, specialized operators, decision makers and the industry. As such, these proceedings are primarily intended for academics and professionals from public, private and military entities. It is the first trans-disciplinary collection of scientific papers from the numerous fields related to CBRNE.
Plasma physics is one of the most important tools in explaining our Universe and it is extensively used in engineering, industries, and medicine to improve the standard of our living. For example, Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) attracted great attention in the last years due to its ability to generate a cocktail of high densities of reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS), UV, and charged particles at room temperature. This cocktail can be used in a wide range of applications such as water treatment, surface treatment, plasma medicine, plasma agriculture, materials synthesis, nanotechnology, and many other industrial applications. CAP can be used directly through local ...
