Manche Kommunikationsformen blieben über den Eisernen Vorhang hinweg – jedenfalls rudimentär – erhalten. Christliche Gemeinschaften hatten den Anspruch, ihre kirchliche Einheit über staatliche Grenzen aufrechtzuerhalten und zu verteidigen. Mit Blick auf die Stadt Berlin wird deutlich, wie religiöse Vergesellschaftung unter den Bedingungen der Trennung funktionierte und in welcher Weise kirchliche Akteure in der Lage waren, die Mauer zu überwinden.
